Unmanned Government
Overview
Whether it is GPS, the Internet, or digital photography, history is filled with stories of swords being turned into plowshares. As drones and driverless vehicle technology transition from the military to the civilian sector, we believe they will radically disrupt existing service delivery models for civilian government agencies and commercial businesses. To better under this potential future, the Unmanned Government project explored the impacts and possibilities of ubiquitous civilian and commercial use of drones and driverless vehicles, specifically focusing on: workforce impacts, civilian applications, the regulatory environment, and what we call the “drone ecosystem”. Our research helps identify how the public sector can harness this technology to create efficiencies and drive value while mitigating for the privacy and security concerns.
